A young rider needs to brake, turn and respond when something unexpected happens. We put those skills into practice, test what riders know and involve parents in the standard their child must meet.
Officers teach from the situations they encounter on the street. Parents learn what to reinforce at home. Riders have to demonstrate both knowledge and control.
Riders and parents learn the rules, the device and the decisions that matter on the road.
Riders practice braking, turning and hazard response. Certification requires passing both written and on-bike assessments.

A verifiable training credential gives participating schools and agencies a way to check completion.
The program grew out of Huntington Beach’s work with young riders, parents and schools. The POST course prepares officers to bring that experience back to their own communities.
Federal proposals and national research point to the need for rider education, device knowledge and better data.
Our California instructor network provides a starting point. National investment can support more hands-on training, the resources agencies need to repeat it and evaluation to guide its growth.
